Factors to Consider when Comparing with Other Fences

The investment in a new fence involves many factors to consider, such as style, quality, warranty, ease of repair and replacement, maintenance and up front and ongoing costs.  Material choice is an important factor, as are quality of source materials and long term parts availability.

Single or Double Sided

A single sided fence means the lesser side faces a neighbour or street, and with timber fences the horizontal rails are a climb point for children or unwanted intruders.  They also don’t comply with pool fencing regulations.

Maintenance

Different fencing materials each have their own maintenance burden.  Wooden fencing in particular has significantly higher maintenance costs than other materials, due to the need to repaint or restain more frequently, which increases the overall cost.

Moduline fencing is made from COLORSTEEL®, which will look good without repainting for its lifetime, which is now guaranteed for up to 20 years.

Twisted posts and panels

Wooden components have a tendency to twist and distort as they dry out, particularly if inferior quality components or panels that are too thin for the job are used.

Moduline fences, made from COLORSTEEL®, will not move regardless of the weather.

Graffiti

Fences facing public areas are known to attract graffiti, and rougher surfaces make it harder to remove.

For wooden surfaces, this often requires stripping, sanding and painting over the affected section.

Graffiti removers are effective on our COLORSTEEL® products when used carefully.

Repair and Partial Replacement

Over the lifetime of your fence, damage caused by vehicles or vandalism is something that does happen.  In that situation, you will need support to repair or replace the components, or possibly entire panels.

This becomes a problem if the original supplier does not carry replacement product or is out of business.

Suppliers of imported fencing in particular tend to not support their products well over the longer term.

Moduline holds stock of most components used over the last 40 years, and can manufacture to your needs. Moduline is frequently requested to assess partial replacements for imported steel fences that have been damaged, and the original importer does not carry product or is out of business.

Suitability of Products for Use in NZ

New Zealand's harsh environment is legendary, and it's not surprising with our proximity to the coastal environment.

Imported products tend to be designed for the country they came from, and do not last as long in our harsher environment.

Moduline and COLORSTEEL® are known products that have been designed and tested to be suitable for New Zealand weather conditions.

Warranty

Warranty tends to reflect the ‘safe’ life of the product.  Wooden fences tend to not get a lifetime warranty, and most of our competitors are around the ten year mark.  Moduline sets the benchmark here with the longest warranty on the market - of up to 20 years on the new MAXAM™ COLORSTEEL®.

The Upshot?

When all the factors are considered, Moduline fencing, made from COLORSTEEL® from NZ Steel, gives the smallest maintenance and longest lifetime to replacement of all materials.  Click here to see an actual cost comparison with an example fence.
